God must love poor people. Why else would He make so many of them?
Better a whole lie than a half-truth.
The sleigh rests in summer, the wagon in winter. The horse, never.
How to get rid of someone for good: If he’s rich, ask to borrow money. If he’s poor, lend him some.
What does God think of money? Look who He gives it to.
Stay out of the way of a mad dog, a runaway horse and a fool with an education.
You can’t fill a sock with holes; you can’t pay a debt with tears.
With luck, who needs wisdom?
Never wish the doctor or undertaker a good year.
A fool’s blessing is he doesn’t know he doesn’t know.
Be careful in front of a goat, in back of a horse and on every side of a drunkard.
It’s easy to practice barbering on somebody else’s beard.
If we didn’t have to eat, we’d all be rich.
Better an honest slap than a false kiss.
If you are too bitter, the world will spit you out. Too sweet, and it will gobble you up.
Better to eat black bread than dream of challah.
If God wills it, geese will sing.
The NY Times reports on how drugs are overused in dementia patients. How about the bigger story–that there are no drugs that make any substantial difference in dementia, not a one, and yet we have PhosphatidylSerine, Acetyl-L-Carnitine, and GlyceroPhosphoCholine, three nutrients which have been found helpful in restoring the function of the senile brain, according to research in over 5,000 older adults. At a conference where I was lecturing, an attendee said that neurologists in her city didn’t like GlyceroPhosphoCholine. I said that’s like firemen not liking water–it’s irrelevant. It works, and it should be the front line therapy.Perhaps what is needed is a class-action lawsuit from dementia patients and their families to demand a higher standard of orthomolecular care. Not using therapeutic micronutrition with the aforementioned nutrients in light of available data should now be considered malpractice.
High Postprandial Levels Independently Associated With Mortality
Results of a new study show which information from oral glucose tolerance tests can be used independently predict mortality.
The most significant independent risk factor for mortality was the higher 120-minute glucose, the 2 hour test, according to researchers from the National Institutes of Health and University of Parma in Italy. They studied 1,401 people aged 17 to 95 who participated in the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging. Each individual underwent one or more OGTT and had insulin and glucose measurements taken every 20 minutes during a two-hour period. None of the participants had diabetes upon study entry.During more than 20 years of follow-up, first-hour OGTT glucose and insulin levels increased slightly with age. However, second-hour levels increased more dramatically 4% per decade. The higher rise with age of the two-hour values is consistent with previous reports, according to the study. When examined separately, the 100-minute and 120-minute glucose measures were also independent predictors of mortality, as were the fasting and 100-minute insulin levels. However, when examined together, the higher 120-minute glucose level was the only significant independent risk factor for mortality. These findings suggest the value of using the OGTT in clinical practice, according to the researchers.Diabetes Care. 2008;31:1026-1030.
Searching for bodies was called off temporarily in the tragic incident of the capsized ferry off the coast of the Philippines after it was discovered the ferry also carried cargo consisting of toxic pesticides. The pesticide in question was endosulfan, which the European Union and Cambodia has banned but we still use. It’s a potent neurotoxin. We should do more than just not swim with toxic pesticides–we should ban them completely.
Interesting video on algae and how it is our most efficient way of converting the sun’s energy into useable carbon based energy.
A new report says there are dangerous chemicals in new shower curtains, and I couldn’t agree more. I just got a new shower curtain and had to let it air outside for a few days first. And, we all need to be testing ourselves for these toxic chemicals and doing our best to rid our bodies of them. A simple urine test can give us an idea of where to begin. Here’s a list of the toxic chemicals in shower curtains.
One of my favorite companies making herbal products is Scientific Botanicals. They are located at 8003 Roosevelt Way NE in Seattle, WA 98115. Their phone number is (206) 527-5521. At this writing, they do not seem to have a website. Unfortunately, they do not sell directly to nutritionists. They only sell to MDs, Licensed NDs, and chiropractors in some states. However, you can order their products at Becker Natural, a pharmacy that marks their products up very little from wholesale. I am a big fan of the Hawthorne Extract for heart support, Hipex (rose hips extract) for a range of conditions, and their liquid selenium with saffron in the nutritional support of cancer. I have no financial connection with Scientific Botanicals or Becker Natural Pharmacy.
